ABSTRACT
Abrasive Jet Machining(AJM) is a un conventional machining process in which fine abrasive particles are made to accelerated in a gas stream towards the work surface. As the particles impact the work surface, they cause small fractures, and the gas stream carries both the abrasive particles and the fractured (wear) particles away. Abrasive water jet machining (AWJM) is a non-traditional industrial process using a mixture of water and an abrasive substance. This is often during fabrication of machine parts. This paper focuses on the comparative analysis between AJM and AWJM by considering different process parameters on glass specimen. Drilling of glass at different standoff distance(SOD), pressures, type of abrasive, size of abrasive and nozzle diameters(ND) have been carried out by AJM and AWJM. In this attempt it is tried to determine machinability(MRR) of the processes under varying different controlling parameters .These parameters are slightly varies in AWJM.
. AJM removes material through the action of focused beam of abrasive gas and AWJM removes material through the flow of abrasive and water at high pressure. Rectangular glass plate of 3mm thickness are taken for this experimentation.Experiments are conducted both on AJM machine and AWJM machine. The results obtained in machining are compared.
